Greece: The Truth Behind The News

Since 25/05/11 the people in Greece have swarmed the public squares indignant, enraged, but even more determined. United against a rotten system they resist all these things that condemn them to a life without hope. They revolt against whoever endangers their freedom and wellbeing.
They took life into their hands and they are fighting to defend the real democracy which was reborn in the squares and in the people's assemblies.
They are sending this message to the entire world: to drive out for good all the financial terrorists and whoever tyrannizes the people and undermines their future.

We are approaching the limits of science fiction

Scientists Create YouTube Video Based on Thoughts...

If you thought the new Facebook was invasive, computer scientists are now one step closer to reading our minds!
Researchers from UC Berkeley pieced together the brain patterns of its subjects as they watched YouTube videos, and then produced a YouTube video of their own with the results.
What emerged was like a Surrealist painting: a blurry, dream-like interpretation of reality (see video below).
For the experiment, subjects–the researchers themselves–spent hours lying still inside a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine, watching two sets of movie trailers. The MRI machine recorded the amount of blood flowing through..

Freddie Mercury Has Been Reborn! (video)

Freddie Mercury has been reborn in Marc Martel. Mercury, the legendary rocker of Queen, died in 1991 and, in commemoration of his 40th death anniversary, drummer Roger Taylor is organizing a special event. Dubbed ‘Queen Extrvaganza’, the event will see selected singers taking stages across North America to pay tribute to the band.
Dozens of Queen and Freddie Mercury fans have submitted videos for the contest, with Marc Martel one of them. This early, though, fans are already proclaiming Martel as the likely winner although voting does not start until November 14.
Marc Martel’s audition video for the Queen Extravaganza has gone viral. As of this writing, Martel’s Freddie Mercury impression has received 1,6 million  views on YouTube.

Strong Solar Activity Continues

New sunspot 1302 is crackling with strong solar flares.
Yesterday the sun has unleashed an X2-class flare - its second X-flare in two days - quickly followed by an M7-class eruption.

So far the blasts have not been Earth-directed, but this could change in the days ahead as the sunspot turns toward our planet.
The sunspot is growing and there is no sign that it will quiet down soon...

Particles found to break speed of light

An international team of scientists said on Thursday they had recorded sub-atomic particles traveling faster than light -- a finding that could overturn one of Einstein's long-accepted fundamental laws of the universe.
Antonio Ereditato, spokesman for the researchers, told Reuters that measurements taken over three years showed neutrinos pumped from CERN near Geneva to Gran Sasso in Italy had arrived 60 nanoseconds quicker than light would have done.
"We have high confidence in our results. We have checked and rechecked for anything that could have distorted our measurements but we found nothing," he said. "We now want colleagues to check them independently."
If confirmed, the discovery would..

We’re All Greece

No, that’s not a stock.  It’s the CDS spreads on the PIIGS (Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Greece and Spain), and is up an astounding 60%
It’s over folks, despite the protests of BNP (Banque Nationale de Paris).

‘We can no longer borrow dollars. U.S. money-market funds are not lending to us anymore,” a bank executive for BNP Paribas, who declines to be named, told me last week. “Since we don’t have access to dollars anymore, we’re creating a market in euros. This is a first. . . . We hope it will work, otherwise the downward spiral will be hell. We will no longer be trusted at all and no one will lend to us anymore.”
The bank denied it, of course, and the source “declines” to be named.
So what’s the truth?
It’s simple: We’re all Greece.

NATO air strike hit a residential building and a hotel in Libya, killing 354 people

NATO air strikes on the ousted leader’s home city of Sirte overnight had hit a residential building and a hotel, killing 354 people.
Fighters loyal to the interim government were fighting street to street, slowly advancing into the city, but have been unable to dislodged Gaddafi loyalists defending it, Reuters journalists embedded with the interim government force said.
The city echoed with the sound of heavy shelling and gunfire. National Transitional Council interim government fighters said they had seen NATO warplanes above the city on Friday but did not know if they had bombed.
“NATO attacked the city of Sirte last night with more than 30 rockets directed at the city’s main hotel and the Tamin building, which consists of more than 90 residential flats,” Gaddafi spokesman Moussa Ibrahim said in a call from a satellite phone to the Reuters office in Tunis.
“The result is more than 354 dead and..

Nasa's Kepler Telescope Discovers Planet Orbiting Two Suns

US astronomers say they have discovered the first planet that is orbiting two Suns, much like the fictional home of Luke Skywalker featured in Star Wars.
Skywalker's native planet of Tatooine was hot and desert-like, but this planet, called Kepler-16b, is a freezing cold world about the size of Saturn, orbiting two parent Suns in a near perfect circle about 200 light years away.
The planet was glimpsed with the US space agency's Kepler space telescope, which monitors the brightness of 155,000 stars, according to the research published in the journal Science.
"This discovery is stunning," said co-author Alan Boss of the Carnegie Institution for Science Department of Terrestrial Magnetism.
"Once again, what used to be science fiction has turned into reality."
While astronomers have previously glimpsed planets they believed were orbiting two stars, they had never before seen one actually..

The world's only animal that... doesn't die!

The turritopsis nutricula species of jellyfish may be the only animal in the world to have truly discovered the fountain of youth.
Since it is capable of cycling from a mature adult stage to an immature polyp stage and back again, there may be no natural limit to its life span. Scientists say the  hydrozoan jellyfish is the only known animal that can repeatedly turn back the hands of time and revert to its polyp state (its first stage of life).
The key lies in a process called..

This is whyTurkey threatens to attack Israel and Cyprus

US-based Noble Energy says that it will push ahead with its Cypriot offshore exploratory well at Block 12, in spite of warnings from Turkey not to do so. Block 12 adjoins Israel's Leviathan field. The "Cyprus Mail" says Cyprus is stuck between a rock and a hard place in the Turkish-Israeli dispute. If President Demetris Christofias chooses to push ahead with drilling, he is essentially calling Turkey’s bluff. Failure to do so effectively acknowledges Turkey’s dominion over the island.
"Cyprus Mail" says that the heightened tension between Israel and Turkey comes on the back of repeated warnings by Turkish officials against Cyprus drilling in its exclusive economic zone. While some commentators believe the feud with Israel may be used as...

Why is Moscow Building New Bomb Shelters?

Nearly 5,000 new emergency bomb shelters will be built in Moscow by 2012 to save people in case of potential attacks.
Moscow authorities say the measure is urgent as the shelters currently available in the city can house no more that half of its population.
In the last 20 years, the area of air-raid defense has been developed little, and the existing shelters have become outdated. Moreover, they are located mostly in the city center, which makes densely populated Moscow outskirts especially vulnerable in the event of a nuclear attack.
In order to resolve the issue, the city has given architects a task to construct a typical model of an easy-to-build shelter that will be located all over the city 10 to 15 meters underneath apartment blocks, shopping centers, sport complexes and parks, as in case of attack people will need to reach the shelters within a minute.

Technology company Apple is now worth more thanTop 32 European Banks

That's the stark result from a steep fall in the share price of banks including Spain's Santander, France's BNP Paribas, Germany's Deutsche Bank and Italy's Unicredit, compared to a steady rise in Apple's valuation, according to Thomson Reuters data.
Earlier on Friday the DJ STOXX euro zone banks index fell 4 percent, valuing its 32 members at $340 billion. That's based on the market capitalization of their free-float shares, which for some French banks in particular is less than 100 percent.
The index has crashed by a third since the start of July, hammered by fears banks will lose billions from their holdings of euro zone government bonds and a failure of policymakers to stop a euro zone debt crisis from spreading.
The euro zone banks have lost three-quarters of their value since peaking in May 2007.
In contrast, Apple's market capitalization has soared to $340 billion on the back of the success of innovative technology products like iPods, iPhones and iPads.
