Two British Men Sentenced to 4-Years in Jail For Encouraging a Riot on Facebook, Which Νever Ηappened..

A British court has sentenced two men to four years in prison for their failed attempts to use the social networking site Facebook to incite rioting during last August's unrest in the country.
Appeals by two men jailed have been rejected by the Court of Appeal.
Jordan Blackshaw, 20, and Perry Sutcliffe-Keenan, 22, were convicted of creating Facebook pages aimed at encouraging violent disorder in their hometowns in northwest England.
At a 27 September hearing, the pair's lawyers argued that their four year sentences were "manifestly excessive".
Both men pleaded guilty to creating the pages, which were entitled "Smash Down Northwich Town" and "Let's Have a Riot in Latchford."
Police say they infiltrated the Facebook page of Jordan Blackshaw last August and promptly arrested him after no one else joined him for the riot. Sutcliffe-Keenan's page was only up for a few hours before he took it down.
Lord Judge said:  "The imposition of severe sentences, intended to provide both punishment and deterrence, must follow."

Nearly 3,000 people across the country have been arrested for participating in the riots, which left five people dead.  Almost half of those detained have been charged with riot-related offenses.
The violence started after the fatal police shooting of a man in London's economically depressed Tottenham neighborhood and quickly spread to other cities across Britain, terrorizing the country for four straight nights.

US Jewish leader Richard Stone sees dire consequences of an attack by Turkey on the Noble Energy rig drilling in Cypriot waters.

In an interview with Cypriot paper "Sunday Kathimerini", Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations chairman Richard Stone warns that an attack by Turkey on the Noble Energy Inc. (NYSE: NBL) rig that is drilling in Cypriot waters would be considered an attack on the US. Stone criticized Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, saying that he was distancing himself from the West and moving towards the East. Stone also said that Erdoğan used the Mavi Marmara incident as a pretext for a divorce from Israel.
Turkish daily "Sabah" reported today that Turkey has prepared a list of 174 Israelis involved in the takeover of the Mavi Marmara ship, including former IDF GOC South Major General Yoav Galant. The paper said that Turkey used Facebook to obtain information about past and present IDF soldiers.

For the first time, researchers have detected ocean-like water in a comet—new evidence supporting the theory comets delivered a significant portion of Earth’s oceans.

Could Alzheimer's disease be infectious?
Possibly, in a similar way as prion diseases like mad cow disease, according to a new study in mice.
The new findings suggest that "some of the sporadic Alzheimer's cases may arise from an infectious process, which occurs with other neurological diseases such as mad cow and its human form, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease," said study researcher Claudio Soto, Ph.D., a neurology professor at The University of Texas Medical School at Houston, said in a statement. However, Sotos' study was just done in mice, and much more research is needed before the results can carry over into humans.

You think Greece's current economic malaise is the worst ever experienced in Europe? Think again. Germany, economic historian Albrecht Ritschl argues in a SPIEGEL ONLINE interview, has been the worst debtor nation of the past century. He warns the country should take a more chaste approach in the euro crisis or it could face renewed demands for World War II reparations. 

Germany is coming across like a know-it-all in the debate over aid for Greece. Berlin is intransigent and is demanding obedience from Athens. Is this attitude justified? No, there is no basis for it.

A German economist bravely points out that Germany is in the position to be the creditor nation of Europe today because it never paid any of its debts in the 20th century, including the war reparations it owed countries like Greece.

During the 20th century, Germany was responsible for what were the biggest national bankruptcies in recent history. It is only thanks to the United States, which sacrificed vast amounts of money after both World War I and World War II, that Germany is financially stable today and holds the status of Europe's headmaster. A comet discovered by amateur astronomers on Friday, Sept. 30th, disintegrated in spectacular fashion the very next day when it plunged into the sun. The Solar and Heliospheric Observatory recorded the comet's last hours. The end was punctuated by an unexpected explosion:
There is no known mechanism for comets to trigger solar explosions. Before 2011 most solar physicists would have discounted the events of Oct. 1st as pure coincidence--and pure coincidence is still the most likely explanation.
