The End of USB Port?

Apple last week introduced its newest line of MacBook Pros. One of the major changes for the laptop is the addition of a new I/O port called Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt is based on Intel's Light Peak, a technology capable of transferring data at ludicrous speed with a max of 10 Gbps (and it's upgradeable to 100 Gbps).
While the speed may be enough of a reason to go gaga over Thunderbolt, there is one more thing. Since Thunderbolt is based on PCI Express, the port can basically become any other port like USB, FireWire, or whatever else you want, using adapters. That means..

you can say "goodbye" to the days of having tons of different ports on a laptop or desktop.
Don't start the funeral for all the other ports just yet. There will inevitably be years and years of legacy support for all kinds of ports. PS/2 connectors are still not dead. However, in the years to come, we'll most likely see Thunderbolt in more computers and electronics in general.
