Greek Prosecutor Wants Papandreou Investigated

ATHENS – Former Prime Minister George Papandreou should be investigated to see if there was any wrongdoing in how he handled the country’s economic crisis and imposed waves of pay cuts, tax hikes, slashed pensions and layoffs of public workers on the demands of international lenders providing the country with rescue loans, the prosecutor probing Greece’s chief of statistics said. Financial prosecutor Grigoris Peponis has recommended that Parliament should look into Papandreou’s Administration from 2009 until the former premier resigned on Nov. 11, 2011 after 18 months of social unrest sparked by the austerity measures.
Peponis has also recommended that Andreas Georgiou, a former International Monetary Fund top official who heads the country’s statistics bureau ELSTAT, should be prosecuted for allegedly misstating Greece’s economic condition in order to force the austerity measures. The Largest Solar Storm Since 2005 Is Hitting the Earth Right Now

The largest solar storm since 2005 is now in progress, causing fluctuations on the power grid and disruptions to the Global Positioning System. The ongoing strong proton storm is in full fury. And it's getting stronger; a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) impact also impacting us, traveling at 1,400 miles per second.
The radiation and geomagnetic storm caused by this CME are normal—about 2,000 geomagnetic storms happen in every 11-year solar cycle—but proton storms are very rare. Only a couple of dozen happen per solar cycle. This one—ranking S3 on a 5-level scale—is dangerous.
The storm has already affected air traffic and may affect satellites. On a telephone interview, NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center physicist Doug Biesecker told me that, fortunately, there are measures to avoid most dangers.

Russian mars probe phobos to crash in to indian ocean Sunday

Russia‘s space agency on Wednesday pinpointed the likely trajectory of its stranded Mars probe, Phobos-Grunt, predicting it would crash into the Indian Ocean west of Jakarta later this week.

“The predicted window for the fragments of the Phobos-Grunt to fall to Earth is between January 14 and 16, with the central point on January 15 at 1:18 pm Moscow time (09:18 GMT), the Roskosmos agency said in a statement.

It also published a map showing the path of the gradually descending probe, with its location at the predicted time west of Jakarta, apparently falling into the Indian Ocean.

20 Tons of Dead Fish Wash up on Norwegian Beach!

Thousands of dead fish washed up on a beach in Norway on New Year's Eve leaving experts baffled.
Residents of Kvennes, in the north of the country, were left astonished as around 20 tonnes of dead herring carpeted the beach.
One theory is that larger, predatory fish such as the pollack may have scared the herring towards the beach, leaving them stranded when the tide went out. A bad storm and disease are also possibilities.
Jens Christian Holst, a researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research, said: "I have never seen such large amounts of stranded herring."

Bulgarian University may be renamed to honor Steve Jobs

A University based in Bulgaria's 2nd largest Bulgarian city of Plovdiv may be named after Apple's late founder Steve Jobs.
The University that is specialized in providing technical education in the field of electronics considers choosing a new name as it approaches its 50th anniversary, and feels a more modern name is in order. Until recently, it was named after Soviet leader Vladimir Ilyich Lenin.
As students and teachers are debating the name issue, Steve Jobs is among the front runners to replace Lenin, the local TV 7 reports. However, some insist that the University should be named after a Bulgarian scientist instead...
